The challenge: The art of risk managment
For the Rijksmuseum, sustainability is a strategic priority. As the first museum to achieve a BREEAM-NL 'Outstanding' (5-Star) rating for building management, encouraging e-bike commuting was a logical step.
However, the operational reality posed a severe risk. The building houses some of the world’s most valuable art, from Rembrandt to Van Gogh to Vermeer. Bringing lithium-ion batteries indoors for charging was strictly incompatible with the museum’s fire safety protocols. The Technical Supervisor needed a solution that would support green commuting without compromising the safety of the collection or the aesthetics of the grounds.
The solution: Fire safety hidde in plain sight
PowerShelter delivered a CoreShelter equipped with active fire suppression. This moved the entire risk profile outside the building while maintaining the visual standards of the location.
Active Fire Suppression: The unit is engineered to detect and suppress thermal events instantly, ensuring that a battery failure never threatens the historic surroundings.
Custom Paint Preference: Located within the busy Rijksmuseum compound, the unit needed to be accessible to staff but unobtrusive to the public. The custom aesthetic, combined with the unit’s stainless steel profile, nestled perfectly into the staff working zone without looking like a temporary industrial fix.
