The challenge: The 'Dinner table' risk
For a 5-star property like Hotel Okura, safety cannot come at the expense of service. Management faced a growing operational headache: guests were bringing e-bike batteries into the building, even placing them under their chairs during multi-course dinners in their Michelin-starred restaurants.
The situation became critical when the hotel’s insurer issued an ultimatum. E-bike batteries were prohibited from being brought indoors due to fire risk. The hotel faced a stark choice: either ban e-bikes entirely (disrupting both guest and employee experiences) or risk voiding their insurance coverage.
The solution: Dual-mode outdoor infrastructure
PowerShelter provided two CoreShelters that visually blended with the hotel's exterior. We installed distinct units to handle different user behaviors:
For Guests (Zero Friction): A CoreShelter equipped with simple PIN locks. This allows guests to instantly secure their batteries without apps or registration, preserving the effortless luxury experience.
For Staff (High Security): A second unit near the staff parking cages, equipped with RFID locks. This integrates with daily commuting routines, ensuring staff have a safe place to charge while they work.
